Spanish Learning Log - agreement

a

Rule: Often Spanish matches adjectives and nouns in number and gender.  So, ocupada (busy/occupied) is matching Carmen (female name) as a singular feminine adjective.

Spanish  - Carmen está muy ocupada.  (Carmen is very occupied)

English - Carmen is very busy.

Reflection: Notice ocupada is genuine cognate.  That means it is similar to an English word, which helps English speakers remember the vocabulary more easily. I remember it means occupied, but I translate it to be busy because that is a more common word used in that context.  I don't usually say in English " I am very occupied.  I usually say "I am very busy".
