Duolingo Progress - spotlight on Swahili

I am making progress with Scottish Gaelic, Swedish and Swahili

Can you recognise any words that I learned?

Can you translate any of these words to English or your target language?

I am interested to learn Swahili. So far, the first Swahili word that I have come across in English is Sawubona.  I remember singing it when I was in the university choir.  I gathered it was African, but now know it is a greeting.

Swahili -	Mimi ni mwalimu

	English - I am a teacher

 Reflection: I like the simple pronouns like mimi for I. It seems verbs don't change much, maybe they are in a constant form for different pronouns. I like the different spelling combinations. LIke lots of consonants together.

Swahili Learning Log - indefinite article

     

Rule: Swahili seem to show the indefinite article within the noun. 

Swahili  -Wanafunzi wanafagia chumba. 

(The students( 1 word)  the sweep(1 word) the room (1 word)

English - The students sweep the room.

Refleciton: I wonder if it is omitted or implied, if it is not clear if it not included or as a different form of the noun broom vs a broom vs the broom.

Swahili Learning Log - word order / place & nationality

   

Rule: Swahili word order is the same as English.

Swahili  -Emilian ni Mkenya. (Emilian is from Kenya.

English - Emilian is Kenyan.

Reflection: However, it is not clear if Mkenya is Kenya, Kenyan or both the place and the nationality. If it is also the place, then the preposition from is implied is the word 'ni' as is and from both together in one word.
