Rule: Often Italian puts the adjective after the noun. eg. la penna rossa (literally- the pen red)
Italian - L'insetto รจ lungo un centimetro. (The insect is long a centimetre)
English - The insect is a centimetre long.
Reflection: Perhaps, it is because of emphasis of the subject. The length is the point/subject of the sentence. Perhaps, the length is that particular measurement in centimetres.
